Hello Wisconsin Chapter Members,
Our Executive Board and Committee Chair members hope all Wisconsin Chapter ASSE members are doing well. Summer is fast approaching which means quality time with family and friends so remember to enjoy safely!
The 2008/2009 ASSE Wisconsin Chapter Calendar year is winding down the home stretch. We only have one technical meeting left and of course the annual planning meeting, golf outing and awards recognition banquet.
June 11, 2009 is the ASSE/OSHA Safety Day at Waukesha Area Technical College (WCTC). I know I spend a lot of time talking to many members bout this event, simply because you will not find 30 action packed presentations, networking, exhibitors, etc., for only $15 per person for the day. You can’t beat this deal. The Safety Day brochure has been sent to all members explaining all the wonderful presentations taking place on this day. We are still looking for companies that may be interested in displaying products at a booth ($200 for the day), sponsor’s, donations, etc. We will also be serving food and beverages through the day. I can’t thank Sheila Collins, Brian Well, Ross Lukowski, Stan Crawford and Dave Leix enough for there assistance with this great event.
As usual, we remain very busy and I just want to bring you up to speed on what has been happening:
Technical Meeting - April 9, 2009, Randy’s Restaurant and Fun Hunters Brewery, “How to Land a Job in the Safety and Health Industry”. Chevon Bowen - Travelers Insurance (Insurance/Loss Control Industry), Ryan Nitz - P&H Mining (Industrial Safety) and Chad Mydlowski - Platt Safety Services (Construction Safety) all recent UW Whitewater graduates provided the group of over 55 attendees information how to obtain a job in the every changing safety profession. The group enjoyed a fine dinner with desert and an exciting panel discussion with excellent feedback from all who attended. This meeting is just one example why we like to visit or friends, students and professors at UWW. Thanks to Rick Barton for making this meeting happen!
April 22, 2009 – ASSE Wisconsin Chapter Survey – I sent out an e-mail to all chapter members trying to obtain feedback to make our chapter be better than ever. Your responses assist our chapter in planning better meetings and making each technical season more enjoyable. It is because of your feedback that the great changes are constantly happening. We will review the results at the Annual Chapter Planning meeting held on June 22, 2009 at 8 AM before the annual golf outing.
April 24, 2009 – ASSE/OSHA Safety Day Planning Meeting. The ASSE Safety Day Planning Committee met with members from OSHA to finalize the logistics for the ASSE/OSHA Safety Day on June 11, 2009 at Waukesha County Technical College (WCTC). We reviewed the completed brochures, discussed classroom layouts, vendors, and menu choices, to name a few.
The final 2009 technical meeting will be held on May 12, 2009 at Veolia Water/Jones Island Wastewater Treatment Plant. Come listen to Patricia Seeley CPE, Ergonomics Solutions, LLC discuss Office Ergonomics. This session will begin at 11:30 with sign in followed by lunch and then the presentation.
The next board meeting will be held at Diversified Insurance on 6/3/09 at 2:00 PM. Anyone wanting to attend that should contact Jim Jones at 262-825-6498 or james.jones@unitedheartland.biz.
FINALLY join us for the ASSE 2009 Golf Outing on June 22, 2009 at Broadlands Golf Course. This day actually begins at 8AM with a free breakfast for those attending the annual planning meeting. For this meeting, we will be reviewing the results of the 2009 ASSE Wisconsin Chapter Survey and setting the technical session calendar for the 2009/2010 year. The golf outing will begin promptly at 11:45 AM and end with a delicious meal and awards recognition banquet. Please join us for this great event. Please refer to wisconsin.asse.org for all the details. You can register by contacting Julie O’Connor at 414-587-3336 or oconnorjulie@hotmail.com. There is still time to sign up your 4-some and maybe become a hole sponsor.
Our website is continually being upgraded. Please check for upcoming technical, board and social meetings, job listings, newsletter and other industry details. We encourage all members to submit articles and/or case studies for the newsletter, which is published on our website monthly. A $50 prize will be given to members who submit a success story which gets published.
Take care and enjoy the Spring!!!
