The Safety Day committee is asking for ASSE members to once again present at this year’s ASSE/OSHA Safety Day 2010 on Thursday, June 10, 2010 to be held at WCTC, Pewaukee campus. We need to fill 10 topics/presenters to cover the field of Safety and Risk Management. Some of the topics we have done in the past included: Workers’ Compensation 101, Safety Committee Best Practices, Injury Repeaters, Accident Investigation, Fleet Safety Programming, Safety for Profit, and Selling Safety to Management, to name a few.
If you have a topic in mind, please state below with a brief description on its contents. I need replies back by March 8, 2010.

Every year since 1996 the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has collected work-related injury and illness data from more than 80,000 employers. For the first time, the agency has made the data from 1996 to 2007 available in a searchable online database, allowing the public to look at establishment or industry-specific injury and illness data. The workplace injury and illness data is available at http://www.osha.gov/pls/odi/establishment_search.html as well as http://www.data.gov.
Greetings Wisconsin ASSE Chapter Members,
I trust everyone has a had a busy and productive Fall. Our new 2009_10 year is off to a good start as evidenced by the turn out for the September 19th ASSE Family Day at the Milwaukee County Zoo outing. Fifty plus members and family attended the event with great weather for viewing the various exhibits.
Recent past ASSE events:
Metal-Era Robotics Safeguarding Technical Meeting – September 15, 2009
Twenty-five plus members attended our 2009-10 kick off meeting on Robotics safeguarding, hosted by Metal-Era, Waukesha, WI. Two representatives from CNC Solutions, Watertown, WI, presented the group with ideas and methods for safeguarding working robotic work cells, including a technical question and answer session, leading up to a tour of several recent robotic workstation installations. Metal-Era has had success in using robotics to safely feed various press brake fabrication applications utilizing parts ranging from inches to over 20 feet.

Fall 2009 ROC Meeting - UL Labs – Northbrook, IL, and ASSE Des Plaines Headquarters – 9/17 & 18, 2009
The day long Fall 2009 ASSE Regional Operating Committee (ROC) meeting was held at the ASSE Des Plaines, IL headquarters on September 18th, 2009. ROC Chapter officer representatives from the sixteen Midwest, Region V Chapters gathered to share ideas on how to move the safety profession forward and to improve each Chapter’s daily activities and functions through best practices and coaching. One of the ROC’s goals is to help show how ASSE provides value to it’s members and their employers.
A highlight of the meeting was a joint teleconference meeting with our newest Region V chapter member – Egypt, who’s membership application was approved during the September 18th meeting. Yes, that’s Egypt, as in the Middle East. The Egypt chapter currently has 130 members, with 4 Board members.
Another highlight of the ROC meeting was preliminary discussions of the Society’s upcoming 100th anniversary plans, schedule to culminate in the 2011 ASSE PDC, June 12-15, 20011, McCormick Place, Chicago, IL. A year long run up to the 100th anniversary is being planned, with the local chapters encouraged to submit historical photos, articles, etc. regarding how their local chapter has evolved over the years, citing it’s growth, accomplishments, etc. The theme of the 100th anniversary is “Your Safety is Our Business…Your Future Our Mission.”
Prior to the all day meeting on the 18th the host Greater Chicago Area ASSE Chapter hosted a tour of the UL Laboratories fire safety research facilities at Northbrook, IL the afternoon of the 17th.
