President’s Corner - January 2009

Hello Wisconsin Chapter Members,

Happy New Year!!! Our Executive Board and Committee Chair members hope all Wisconsin Chapter ASSE members enjoy the New Year and all that it brings.

Due to no technical meeting in December, many members took advantage of the free Holiday Gathering and Networking event on December 15, 2008 at Jo Jo’s Lounge. Those present had an opportunity to catch up with old friends and make new ones in the process. Please look for new networking events throughout 2009.

The next ASSE WI Chapter Technical Meeting will be January 14, 2009. The topics will be “From Train Wreck to Shining Star: How to Accomplish Safety Success”. This will be the 4th year in a row where we have had a co-meeting with Waukesha Area Safety Council. Those attending prior meetings with the council know that these are well attended events which are great for additional networking. Safety success isn’t just measured in dollars and cents it s about your employees going home safe. Jeff Hayes of Golden Guernsey Dairy will present many powerful techniques for obtaining safety success in your facility. Learn how to re-direct your safety committee to be pro-active. Discover innovative techniques for addressing employees who are chronically injured. Whether a large or small business, every company can make tremendous progress to become a shining star in the world of safety success. The February technical meeting will be on 2/12/09. We have lined up John Corriveau, Lighthouse Safety LLC to discuss Fall Protection. John brings his 30 years of safety experience to enlighten us on innovative ways to reduce fall related injuries.

On January 22, 2009 we will be having a planning meeting for ASSE/OSHA Safety Day 2009. The Safety Day 2009 seminar is set for June 11, 2009 at Waukesha County Technical College, Pewaukee, WI. Currently on board with myself are Peter Mark, Sheila Collins, Stan Crawford, and Ross Lukowski, all current active ASSE members. I will be asking for ASSE member participation in presenting topics at the event. Look for an e-mail blast which I will send in early January for a “Call for Speakers”. If you have great ideas and topics for others to learn and hear, we can’t wait for your input.

Our website is continually being upgraded. Please check for upcoming technical, board and social meetings, job listings, newsletter and other industry details. We encourage all members to submit articles and/or case studies for the newsletter, which is published on our website monthly. A $50 prize will be given to members who submit a success story which gets published.

In closing, I hope all of you enjoy this upcoming new year and that it brings you success and prosperity in your personal and business life.
