Divisional Director of Environmental Health & Safety (11/10/08)

Our Client, located in the mid-west, is a multi-million dollar wholly owned subsidiary of a privately held corporation that is a world leader in the design, manufacture and marketing of highly engineered equipment and services sold primarily to customers in the energy industry. The company offers products and services used to produce, transport, process, and distribute oil and gas and their by-products. The parent company is a global business with an established sales presence in over 100 countries with manufacturing or service facilities in over 22 countries. Additionally, the parent organization has historically enjoyed a strong market position and consistently strives to achieve a growth rate higher than the overall markets they serve, thereby gaining market share.

The Director of Environmental Health & Safety will report to the divisional President and is responsible for directing activities in environmental management, occupational safety and health, industrial hygiene, site security and product stewardship in a 1 million sq ft unionized manufacturing facility. The Director of EHS will also interface with the Corporate EHS Director who is located at a headquarter site. The position is responsible for 2 locations in the same community with a combined employee base of approximately 1,000. The Director EHS will directly manage a Safety Coordinator and Environmental & Security Supervisor.

Education and Experience Qualifications:

• Undergraduate degree in environmental science and/or industrial safety/health/Hygiene with a minimum of ten (10) years of professional manufacturing plant level experience; Masters degree a plus
• Must have significant experience with Title V of the Clean Air Act and a detailed understanding of PSD regulations with relevant air modeling knowledge
• Professional certifications highly desirable in lieu of Masters Degree
• Education and experience must clearly indicate the existence of specialized knowledge and successful track record in the initiation, design and implementation and monitoring of critical environment, health and safety programs, functions and equipment
• A demonstrated track record in the planning, development, and implementation of environmental health and safety management systems and effective compliance programs, emergency response and crisis management plans
• A comprehensive knowledge of federal and state environmental, occupational, health and safety, and worker’s compensation laws, rules, and regulations is required
• Must have demonstrative technical competency and managerial and interpersonal skills
• Ability to effectively work with all levels of management as well as bargaining unit employees and corporate departments such as EHS, Law, Human Resources
• Must have excellent organizational and cross functional skills as well as oral and written communication skills
• High proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is required
• Must be self-motivated, and able to make independent, informed, and prioritized decisions
• Must be able to work in both individual and team industrial work settings with minimal supervision; exhibit objectivity and openness to others' views; and recognize accomplishments of other team members
• Must be effective in Change Management – must communicate changes effectively; prepare and support those affected by change
• Must be able to delegates work assignments effectively and clearly to safety committee members, consultants or other colleagues
• Must know how to demonstrate leadership – coach and develop others; display passion and optimism; mobilize others to formulate and fulfill the vision; provide criticism and feedback appropriately
• Must prioritize and plan work activities; set goals and objectives; help Operations anticipate capital and expense needs

The Director of Environmental Health & Safety will have complete familiarity with and be responsible for the following:

• The main facility is a major source under the Clean Air Act and is in the Prevention of Significant Deterioration Program (PSD). This position works closely with Operations to strategically plan an environmental permitting/compliance assurance strategy that provides maximum operationally flexibility while seeking continual improvement in pollution prevention practices
• Cultivates an injury free workplace by engaging Senior Leadership, Operations and Human Resources to establish and execute a results-oriented EHS accountability program throughout all levels of the organization; presents EHS metrics and trends to the divisional President and VP of Operations; develops additional local metrics as needed to facilitate EHS performance improvements
• Coordinates and directs internal and external resources associated the EHS programs within the division, and is responsible for compliance with all applicable government and Corporate EHS standards
• Implements the Corporate EHS Mission and Objectives, including EHS management systems such as ISO14001 and OSHAS 18001
• Works with facility engineering to pursue energy conservation measures and reduce greenhouse gas emissions; evaluating benefits for banking/trading emission reduction credits
• Monitors relevant state and federal regulatory changes, advising the organization regarding long and short term strategic options for EHS compliance, as well as business opportunity or threat
• Provides 3 year EHS Strategic Plan for the division and updates it annually
• Ensures the cost-effective delivery of required training on EHS topics is appropriate, complete and documented
• Participates in operational change management planning; conducts or facilitates EHS Project Reviews associated with Appropriation Requests
• Establishes and maintains necessary contact with EHS regulatory agencies and professional societies to ensure the highest level of assistance and service for the company
• Works with Corporate EHS and Law Departments to adjust accounting reserves for environmental liabilities (FAS 5) or works with divisional accounting and finance staff to update and adjust Contingent Asset Retirement Obligations (FIN 47), as needed

Success for the Director of EHS in the first year would be measured by this individual’s ability to quickly understand the company’s needs, establish processes and procedures and continuous improvement initiatives throughout the organization.

Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 40% of the time is required.

Risk Control Supervisor (10/23/08)

Location: Merrill, Wisconsin

This is a home office position but requires travel.

Responsibilities: Hire, develop, train and oversee assigned risk control representatives in the field. Set standards of performance and conduct scheduled employee performance evaluations including salary adjustments. Qualifications: At least five years of successful commercial risk control experience. A four-year college degree is preferred; however, consideration will be given to a two-year degree in a program related to risk control. Professional designation of ARM, CRM, CSP or CPCU is desired. Continual personal development of risk management knowledge and professional skills is necessary. Senior EH&S Manager (9/16/08)

This is a newly created position, open due to growth, and will be responsible for directing activities in environmental management, occupational safety and health, industrial hygiene, site security and product stewardship in this large division of a major corporation. Safety Coordinator (9/16/08)

This position is responsible for supporting the overall environmental, health, safety and ergonomics programs, identifying and evaluating hazardous conditions and practices. This position will support a program that ensures compliance with state, local, and federal regulations and prevents associate injuries and loss of property.

Essential Functions:

1. Review written safety programs, with supporting policies and procedures that comply with local, state and Federal OSHA regulations. Take proactive steps to confirm that workplace conditions comply while ensuring that all required records are properly prepared and maintained.

2. Ensure the timely and cost effective completion of all assigned safety-related work and projects to maintain a safe and hazard-free work environment for all associates. Identify hazardous workplace conditions and remove hazards. Protect associates by guarding, revising work procedures and/or requiring the use of protective clothing and personal equipment and other appropriate measures.

3. Conduct all appropriate safety training and education programs for supervisors, managers and associates, including new hire safety training orientation, in a timely manner. Maintain accurate and up-to-date training records and documentation.

4. Assist in the prompt investigation of all work-related accidents, injuries and near misses. Resolve any issues related to why/how accidents occurred. Ensure timely and accurate accident report preparation for internal and/or external use.

5. Assist in the management of Maysteel’s workers’ compensation loss control program including monitoring claim levels, reducing costs, and facilitating early return to work.

6. Manage the facility Safety Committees to ensure important safety initiatives are executed in a timely manner.

7. Perform frequent audits to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

8. Coordinate and perform all OSHA mandated testing and training programs and industrial hygiene testing.

Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Health, Environmental or a related field of study with a minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience is required. Theoretical and practical knowledge of all state and federal regulatory standards including OSHA, NIOSH, EPA and DNR is required.

• Success in leading either multiple plant or multiple project activities and project leadership on cross-functional teams
• Strong preference for “hands-on” involvement with Lean/Six Sigma tools and principles, or at minimum, proven experience facilitating problem solving using other metrics-driven tools and techniques
• Not required, but helpful – formal experience in either behavioral based safety or ergonomics

Training Manager of Safety Systems: Wind Energy, Industrial, Construction (9/16/08)

Location: Milwaukee, WI

Established and known wind energy manufacturing client, involved in turbines and towers, seeks a manager that can develop a formal training program and staff a fast growing business segment.

Individual will be responsible for ensuring that the internal installation and certification crews are following safety guidelines. Eventually will train and certify own site superintendents/crew chiefs. The position will expand to implementing safety training plans and procedures with global customers and third party O&M providers - a train the trainer program.
